Covid-19: 151 offences registered in Thane

THANE: As many as 151 cases have been registered by Thane police for various offences, including for violating prohibitory orders imposed as part of nation-wide lockdown to tackle coronavirus.

According to the data procured from the city police, from March 18 to March 29, a total of 151 cases have been registered in which 146 are those on the violation of the prohibatory orders, while others include that of violating the home quarantine rules and spreading rumours about Covid-19.

A police officer said that there has been a strict enforcement in all the five zones of the Thane police commissionerate. The Kalyan zone tops the chart with total of 64 cases followed by Thane city and Ulhasnagar with 24 each cases. While Bhiwandi zone has 22 cases and Wagle estate zone has 17 cases so far.

Not even a single case of black-marketing is registered by the police, but around four cases have been that of spreading rumours. In one such case, Kasarwadavli police booked a man Shreyas Gawas allegedly for spreading rumours about his company being operational despite the lockdown in the midst of the Covid-19 outbreak,

A senior police officer informed that the police are doing multitasking with providing food, to law enforcement, crime prevention etc in the last few days.

On the other hand, the police have beefed up the security in the Mumbra area which is the constituency of housing minister Jitendra Awhad. Subsequently, an additional company of SRPF of hundred jawans and two platoons of 30 jawans each, have been deployed in Mumbra in addition to the local police force.

A police officer informed that the citizens in Mumbra are not adhering to the rules laid by the government on the backdrop of the spread of corona virus and hence the extra police force is being deployed in the Mumbra area. Apart from this, even 200 homeguards are added to the area, said a senior police officer.
