Coronavirus: 2 new cases in Mumbai, Thane; Maharashtra total rises to 124

2 new positive cases of coronavirus has been reported in Mumbai and Thane on Thursday. With this the total tally in Maharashtra has gone up to 124, as per the state health department. "2 new positive cases of coronavirus in Mumbai and Thane; Till now, the total number of positive cases in the state is 124: Health Department, Maharashtra," ANI tweeted.

Maharashtra, with rest of the country is under lockdown till 14 April. Essential services like food items, vegetables, fruits, grocery and bakery items are exempted from lockdown. To prevent virus spread, Maharashtra chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has urged citizens to remain indoors.

The total number of positive coronavirus cases in India have climbed to 606, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday. Maharashtra is the worst affected state in the country. Kerala is the second-most affected state in the country with 109 cases so far.

A 65-year-old man in Srinagar died today due to coronavirus infection, taking the total death toll in the country to 11.

In his address to the nation on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a 21-day lockdown in the entire country effective from midnight to deal with the spread of coronavirus, saying that "social distancing" is the only option to deal with the disease, which spreads rapidly.
