Tembi Naka fair further jams busy roads around it, commuters fume

15 October, 2018

THANE:The traffic jams caused due to the ongoing fun fair and pandal placed at Tembi Naka is leading to massive traffic snarls, especially during evening peak hours.

Commuters complain that they are stuck in traffic snarls for long hours and it takes them double time duration to reach their destinations. They stated that it takes almost half an hour to get out from the station road towards Gokhale road, Ram Maruti road, Almeda road etc.

“My usual route was from Tembi Naka towards Majiwada but now since the road is shut I either take the Charai route or the Gokhale road but there is huge congestion on both of these routes. Many times even the auto rickshaws deny taking any passengers towards Ghodbunder because of the congestion. It is more feasible to walk till Teen hath Naka or near Almeda road as one can reach faster rather than getting stuck for almost half an hour,” said Xeus Gracias, resident of Majiwada.

The commuters who take the share auto rickshaws are being charged Rs 10 extra because of the change in the route and the congestion that is caused. -

“Earlier these autos charged Rs 40 to go towards Waghbil but now they have started charging Rs 50 as it takes more time to return to the station. Also, they have to take different route that is from Dhobi Ali towards Vikas complex,” said Parcheta Mada, resident of Waghbil.

The traffic authorities stated that they have deployed extra manpower on these various routes which are near station to try and reduce the congestion. The also added that they are operating the traffic manually and have switched off the signals as it becomes easier to adjust the jam.

“Four officers have been deployed in each of these areas to make sure that there is regulation of traffic and also to do diversions. If the officer comes across any lanes wherein the snarls are longer then alternative routes areas suggested to the motorists. Also, it is made sure that hawkers do not sit in any of the lanes so that it does not obstruct the traffic movement,” said Amit Kale, DCP at Thane traffic.

The traffic at Tembi Naka is crazy even during the afternoon hours. I leave for my office at 2.00 in the afternoon, which is supposed to be odd hours, but these days the roads are jammed even during the afternoons. The autos have to take a long detour to avoid jams extending the travel time. I hope the traffic issue is resolved soon.

I avoid Tembi Naka route and either take the Charai route or the Gokhale Road but these are also jammed. Even auto rickshaws deny taking any passengers towards Ghodbunder because of the congestion. It is more feasible to walk till Teen hath Naka or near Almeda road as one can reach faster rather than getting stuck for almost half an hour
