Old Thane-New Thane Theme Park

30th Nov, 2017

An initiative by Thane MLA Pratap Sarnaik to construct a theme park in Thane to create awareness of the history of the city

At the Old Thane-New Thane Theme park, replicas of various structures, places and monuments of Thane have been created, such as the Old Thane Port, Old Thane and New Thane Railway Station, Old Thane Armour, Massunda Talav, M.H. High School, Kopineshwar Temple, Thane Jail and the Gadkari Theatre. Along with these, they also have a Ganapati Visarjan theme.

Almost 90 per cent of the work of the theme park has already been done, claimed one of the officials on the condition of anonymity. The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has proposed that the inauguration of the theme park should be done within a month's time.

According to the structure of the theme park, the officials are going to create pathways within the park, and approximately 250 streetlights are going to be fixed in the park. Along with it, a security guard cabin, ticket window, a pond, public toilet, as well as decorative trees, shrubs, grass and other such facilities are to be availed. Electric lights are to be put up as a decoration and a seating arrangement will be made for viewers.

The construction of this theme park has been underway for the past eight months and is to be completed and inaugurated by the end of this year. Approximately 36,000 sq km land has been reserved for this theme park in Thane at Manpada, on the Ghodbunder road.

“I personally thank Shri Sanjeev Jaiswal for helping us to speed up the construction of the project. We hope this will be a great initiative to showcase the history of Thane city,” said Sarnaik.

One of the officials claimed that the Ghodbunder area in Thane has completely changed over time. “Most of the people do not know the history of the city. They do not know how Thane was before, the landmarks in the city and so on. So, we have created a replica of the entire Thane city, both Old Thane and New Thane, in a small piece of land”, said Sandeep Dongre, PR person to MLA Sarnaik.

He further said, “History is being showcased at the theme park. We hope this will help create awareness about the city to the young generation.”

The construction of the Old Thane-New Thane theme park is in it's final stages. According to sources, just the finishing work is remaining and the park is expected to be open by the end of this year.
