Thaneites Feel the Chill as Temp Drops to 21C

13th Nov, 2017

THANE: Since last week the city has been witnessing a slight drop in temperatures, especially at night. But this cool climate will be short-lived as temperatures will shoot up by a few notches in the days to come. This rise in temperature will be before the onset of winter, weathermen claim.

In October, the minimum temperature was around 28 degrees Celsius and maximum around 37 degrees Celsius. However, since November, there has been a slight drop in temperatures and on November 13 the minimum temperature was 21.1 degrees Celsius.

While the minimum temperature has been hovering around 22 and 24 degrees Celsius, the maximum temperature has been 34 to 36 degrees Celsius.

Weathermen have predicted that while the maximum temperatures may remain constant throughout the week, the minimum temperature will shoot up by two to three degrees Celsius in a day or two and will remain high for another three days, after which it will cool down.

"Currently, citizens in Mumbai, Thane and Dahanu regions have been witnessing cool and dry North- Easterly winds, which causes a drop in temperature. However, there is an upcoming western disturbance which will obstruct these winds after around 24 to 48 hours," said Mahesh Palawat, chief meteorologist at Skymetweather.

"This disturbance will last for three to four days and is expected to cause the first snowfall of the year in areas like Jammu and Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh and so on. Once this disturbance moves away, the temperatures will drop again as the cool and dry winds from the north will blow over central and south western India," he added.
