There are many cars in India that come from foreign brands, but are manufactured in India. The major reason behind this remains cost. Skoda Kushaq
Skoda recently launched the Kushaq in the Indian market. It directly competes with the Kia Seltos and the Hyundai Creta, sitting in the range of Rs.12-20 Lakhs. The MQB-AO-IN platform that houses the Kushaq boasts the largest wheelbase in the segment. The 1.5L Turbo Petrol that is mated to a 7-speed DSG is also something that sets the Kushaq apart.
Volkswagen Taigun
The Taigun is also built on the same platform as that of the Kushaq. It differs in design, and some features. The Taigun gets a more futuristic look, while the Kushaq looks more classy and elegant. The Taigun also gets a similar power train, the same one actually. It gets a 1L Turbo petrol with a 6-speed A/T and a 1.5L Turbo Petrol with a 7-speed DSG.
Skoda Slavia
The Slavia is all set to launch in India by March 2022. Skoda India recently stated that the production for the Slavia has officially started. It is also based on the same MQB-AO-IN platform, just like the Kushaq and the Taigun. The Slavia will enter the mid-size premium sedan segment, and will be a direct competition to the Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and Honda City. Again, the Slavia boasts the longest wheelbase in the segment, along with the largest boot as well. Moreover, the Slavia will get the same engines as that of the Kushaq, which means that the 1.5L Turbo petrol will also be the most powerful engine in the segment, by quite a large difference!
Volkswagen Virtus
Next up on the list is another German car, the Virtus. It will be Volkswagen’s version of the Slavia, and is expected to follow the same engine and gearboxes. Apart from a few features and cosmetic differences, both these cars will be pretty similar in nature.
KIA Sonet
KIA launched the Sonet specifically for the Indian market. After the Seltos, KIA soon realized that India is an SUV hungry market, and a sub-compact will be the next best step. The Sonet comes with segment-first features like ventilated seats, front parking sensors and an iMT
KIA Carens
The Carens is another product that KIA has unveiled just for the Indian market. Again, sensing India’s need for an SUV like MPV, KIA has given us just that. The Carens will be offered with either a 6 or a 7 seat configuration, and will be placed as an option between the Maruti Ertiga and the Toyota Innova. Engine and gearbox options will be shared with the Seltos.
Renault Triber
The Triber was in a true sense a very revolutionary product. An MPV, capable of seating 7 people, coming in at a starting price under of Rs.6 Lakhs, how often do you see this? Moreover, the Triber won our hearts when it went ahead and scored a 4-Star safety rating in the GNCAP crash test. It is one of the safest MPVs in India right now.
Renault Kiger
The Kiger is an excellent value for money subcompact SUV. It offers decent features, ample space and an excellent exterior. With a starting price of just over Rs.5 Lakhs, the Kiger is a good option for someone looking out for their first car. It comes with two 1L petrol engines, one naturally aspirated (72HP) and one turbocharged (100HP). Gearbox options include a 5-speed manual 5-speed AMT and a CVT.
Hyundai Alcazar
The Alcazar sits above the Creta in Hyundai’s line-up. It comes with the option or a 6-seat or a 7-seat configuration, just like the Carens. The diesel engine is shared with the Creta, while the petrol engine is a 2L Unit that makes around 150HP. Both, 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options are available.
Nissan Magnite
Some say that the Magnite has been a saviour for Nissan in India. Indeed, the Magnite has been doing very well in the market, and is a very well appreciated car. It shares platforms and engines with the Renault Kiger, and also shares the gearbox options. The Magnite is the only car in its segment that gets a 360-degree camera! This is a feature that is missing on many cars placed way above the Magnite!
