Introduction ...

These round beveled buttons are versatile and easy to make. You need is Photoshop4 or later and this tutorial, and about 10 minutes.
Lets get started...

1. Create a new file RGB 100X100 pixels

2. With the elliptical marquee tool, make a round selection. Be careful not to make it too big, or it will touch the edge of the file and be distorted. ( as shown in figure )

3. set the background color to the color you want the button to be. This button looks best if made with Dark colors.

4. Press delete. This will fill the circle with your background color.

5. Save the selection as a new channel (you can do this by clicking the 'save selection as new channel' button on the channels pallet, or by clicking select/Save selection /new channel ). this will be channel 4.

6. Click Select/modify/contract 6 pixels...and save this as new channel this will be channel 5

7. Load channel 4 by clicking on it while holding command/ctrl. The whole green circle is once again selected.

8 Click Filter/Render/Lighting effects..try the settings shown in the illustration..(You may have to tweak the lighting effects to get it to look like a sphere, this is the desired result of this lighting effect)
