Getting to know Dr. Vivek Karve -- A Sporting Doctor !

Doctor, please tell us something about yourself......
"I am a Thaneite, since 1972. I completed my schooling in 80' from M. H. High school and college from Government Dental College, Mumbai. I love cricket and have played for the Mulund Medico Cricket Team and still play soft ball at the club house grounds in Vasant Vihar."

Since when are you in this profession ?
I started practising in 1987 and opened my first clinic in Thane, East. Later, when my family shifted residence near to Vasant Vihar I opened the second clinic in Amrapali Arcade."

How did the the idea of 'Dentech' come to you ?
"In 1998, I went to Singapore for a specialised training programme, where I saw the concept of an Hi-tech 'multi-chair' clinic where several patients could be attended to, at any given time. The patient in pain need not wait in line unnecessarily, like in a popular crowded restaurant so the germ of the idea entered and remained, to take root when I came back to India."

"Back home, I applied to The Thane Janata Sahakari Bank, Thane(East) for the project, that I had in mind and it has come through- to be inaugurated on 17th june last year by Mr. Uddhav Thackeray and Mrs. Smita Thackeray. I am happy that every thing turned out just the way I had visualised it."

What is the plus point of your clinic ?
"This being a health related service- Cleanliness, Hygiene and Sterilization of instruments and equipment used, is accorded top priority."

"Besides that our spacious air-conditioned clinic offers the simultaneous use of five hi-tech chairs,and to ease their worries we also have a special education software which explains to them the exact proceedure we will be performing on them."

"We try to offer optimum quality services in the inhouse Lab for making teeth, dentures white metal Bridges, etc. We have our own autoclaver to sterilize the used instruments, We also have a 100 sets of various diagnostic instruments and trained and experienced medical staff assisting the senior Doctors."

What is the risk factor involved for you personally ?
"Like in all chosen professions there is some kind of occupational hazard involved . In our case we are exposed to blood and so to a lot of diseases and infections, which we try and avoid by wearing masks, gloves and glasses ."

Are you associated with any other activity or service? Specify.
"My wife , Mrs. Mekhla K. is is an M.M.S.(Masters in Managhement studies). She sees to the entire administration of the clinic so with her help and my entire Dentech team, we have conducted various Free check up camps, which I believe are very necessary to instill dental hygiene in growing children.We have covered a lot of schools like Vasant Vihar High School, V.V. Bedekar , New English High School A.K.Joshi School and others."

What is your future plan?
"Next for the comfort and convenience of my patients I am planning a technical upgradation of the clinic by importing R.V.G. (an advance X-ray system)."
