Mr. Yashvantbuva Vaidya
Singer from Thane

Q. Tell us something about yourself ?
A.
I was in M.S.R.T. service for last 40 years and am now retired since 1990. Every member in our family loved singing and was also interested in music. My uncle was a Tabla player as well as my parents were also used to sing. I too had a keen interest in learning music as my family was involved with this and so I learnt singing.

Q. When did you learn singing and from whom?
A. From 1955 I was learning music and singing. I started learning from my guru Mr. Bhaskar Pathak for 5 years and learnt Gwalher Gharana. In 1972 I got Gandharva Vidyalaya's Sangeet Visharad Degree.

Q. Do you also take classes for the same?
A. I was teaching this art from 1975 and I teach upto Alankar level. I take two batches in a day that are from 8 am -12 pm and 4pm -8pm. These classes are carried out everyday.

Q. Tell us something about your singing programmes?
A.I used to sing on All India Radio in1985. I have performed in Vapi, Indore and many other places in Mumbai as well as in India.

Q. Any message to the people of Thane?

A. Due to the busy schedule of today's people's life there is no time for anybody to dedicate to any type of hobby. I would like to tell the people to dedicate some time to different hobbies like reading, singing or any other activity that will give them a break from their daily routine and also give them peace of mind.

Q. How much satisfied you are?
A. I am 100% satisfied with my work. Even after 10 years of retirement from service I am notgetting bored because I am enjoying my singing and classes which also helps me to pass my time.

Q. What do you think what is the right age for learning the singing?
A. One should start learning from the age of 10 years as this age a child can sit patiently in one place and listen to the teachings going on. But those who are interested can learn anytime as there is no such age bar and a person of 40 years also can learn this art.

Q. Tell us something about your students?
A. Some of my students who are now radio artists are Ms. Sandhya Khambete, Ms. Vrushali Ranade and Ms. Minal Damle.
