Due to the mental condition of his brother, Raj needs to give most of his time to him so much so that his career prospects suffer in the bargain. But he does not regret it. Both the brothers are inseparable and Rahul totally depends on Raj because, only he as a brother can understand his needs and desires.

The entire society loves the brothers and the immediate next door family of the Chopras (Shivaji Satam, Reema Lagu, their daughter Suman (Namrata Shirodkar) and their son (Sanjay)) treat them as part of their extended family and always stand by them. Suman loves Raj but Raj always shrugs her off, as for him his life is dedicated to his brother.

The normal life of Raj takes a turn when his ex-Boss Mr. Khanna (Prem Chopra) asks Raj to meet his niece Madhuri (Sonali Bendre) who has come from Delhi after a broken engagement. At first, a little apprehensive, but with time both Raj and Madhuri do take a liking for each other. Raj, especially responds, considering Rahul has also taken a fancy for her. When the society has an annual function Madhuri comes too and joins Raj and Rahul in the celebration not to mention that Suman is not too happy seeing Madhuri in their midst.

It is Madhuri who first makes Raj aware that Rahul needs to be educated and made wiser rather than stagnate at home and there are institutions for such "SPECIAL" children. Raj refuses to give an ear to her suggestion, but finally on Madhuri's insistence goes to a couple of institutions and after talking to the parents of the patients and also the Doctors there, he is convinced to a certain extent that admitting Rahul to such an institution will help.

But all hell breaks loose when Rahul is given this news. He refuses to be admitted and does not want to see reason. Despite his refusal, Raj takes Rahul to the institute.

Once separated, a sea of turmoil engulfs Raj. Which way the tide turns in the lives of Raj, Rahul, Madhuri and Suman forms the end of this human sentimental drama.
