Thane
School of Art
Some
of the artists and art lovers from our city
came together and formed the :"Thane Art Society" at
Thane in month of august 1984. Since then, with a view
to encourage art activities in our city we organised
various demonstrations on painting, sculpture and modelling,
slide-shows, photography, exhibitions of paintings by
well-konwn artists, as well as
conducted Child Art Competitions till today. While organizing
such activities, we realised the desperate need for
awell equipped ideal art institution in the interest
of the younger generation of this city which could impart
ideal educational training in the various faculties
of Art, such as Drawing and Painting, Sculpture and
Modelling, Applied art, Textiles Design, Interior Decoration,
Metal Craft, Architecture, etc.
It
is a fact that there was no such art institution in
the nearby areas of this city, with the result that
students desirous of higher art education, had to go
all the way to Mumbai C.S.T. or Bandra, which was practically
a very
difficult. Under such circumstances those who could
not send their wards to such a long distance were forced
to send them to the other branches of general education
in which they were not interested.
So
in order to facilitate Art education in our city we
established a higher art institution in July 1986 and
commenced the basic Foundation Course. We have also started
the Art Teacher's Diploma Course since 1993, and the
' Interior Decoration' course since 1998 along with
the foundation course.
The Thane School of Art is recognised by the Goverment
of Maharashtra. All the courses comprise of 30 students
each.
