If
your name is not on the voters list, don’t
despair, make haste — you can still vote
in the coming elections provided you register
at the tehsildar’s office at Chendani
Naka, Station Road, before March-end.
Kamlesh
Sonavne, election officer for Thane district,
says, “Residents should fill Form 6 and
submit it at the Tehsildar’s office before
Mar 31 so that we can process it".
Political
parties have already started encouraging residents
to register. Says Vilas Joshi, a Shiv Sena worker
in Thane who has been involved in coordinating
the election process for the last 20 years,
“Like every year, we are encouraging people
to register and vote by putting up messages
and distributing Form 6 at different places.
We are holding regular training sessions and
seminars among our party workers to ensure a
smooth election process. We will make sure that
citizens are properly guided on the process".
Regarding
the supplementary list, Sonavne says, “We
have to update the last list as there might
be inclusions and exclusions of voters, considering
factors like deaths, transfers, new voters and
new entrants to the city. This supplementary
voting list is a good chance for those who have
not registered or have not been included in
the last voting list".
The
Union ministry of defence has handed the Central
Maidan at Thane, the only sports ground in Thane,
over to the Central Maidan Sports Club Committee
with effect from Mar 1.
The
de-reservation of the plot is good news for
the Thane sports circuit. “This is the
only ground in Thane where sports events can
be conducted.
However,
each time we had to host a competition, we had
to seek permission from the Defence ministry.
The Thane Collectorate would then issue orders
on behalf of the ministry,” says Satish
Pradhan, the president of Central Maidan Sports
Club Committee and the Sena MP for Thane constituency.
TMC
plans dam on Shahi river
|
A
new proposal for a dam to be constructed exclusively
for Thane city on Shahi river has been submitted
to MMRDA by TMC.
Around
two months ago, the corporation had floated
another plan to tackle water shortage in Thane.
The project, which would involve getting water
from Bhatsa dam using pipelines, is still stuck
at the proposal level. But the Shahi river project
has already received a funding of Rs 71 lakh
from MMRDA for technical study.
