THANE: A devastating fire at a chemical godown of the powerloom town of Bhiwandi in Thane district destroyed the godown, police said today.
The fire started at about 8.00 pm last yesterday and about a dozen fire tenders from Bhiwandi and surrounding areas fought the fire for more than six hours to combat the fire, they said.
The fire was doused around five this morning, police said, adding that the cause of fire was still not known.
No one was injured in the fire that razed throughout the night and affected the surrounding areas where the godowns are situated, police said.
The presence of hazardous chemical along with loud explosions created a fear among the neighbours.
It may he recalled that there have been a number fires in the recent past in the godowns in these areas and the authorities have expressed serious concern over the safety of the location.
