The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC)'s first art gallery, Thane Kala Bhavan, is now fully functional and is increasingly becoming popular with the artists and art lovers. The management ensures a busy schedule with exhibitions running back-to-back at Kala Bhavan since its inauguration.
The art gallery has also hosted art exhibitions and workshops and appreciation programmes. With more than 5,000 visitors now, the Kala Bhavan boasts of many patrons and visitors.
To keep them well-informed about the activities at Kala Bhavan, the management has decided to go with the times and start an SMS facility. Through this, thousands of art lovers in and around Thane will receive the pre-event detail of activities held at Kala Bhavan.
After Gadkari Rangayatan, Thane Kala Bhavan art gallery can be regarded as another cultural hub in the city. The artists not only from the city and district but from all over from the state also visit and exhibit their shows at Kala Bhavan. The gallery received more than 5,000 art lovers in just last two months. In addition to that more than 3,000 students have also visited the art gallery till date.
The art gallery management has now come up with the new SMS service. The work has begun on converting the physically written contacts details into computerised data for maintaining a database to use the SMS service effectively.
About the new SMS project, Mahesh Rajderkar, in-charge of Thane Kala Bhavan, informed, "We have started collecting data from the people who visit the art gallery by maintaining a register book at the entrance of the Kala Bhavan. Now, we have the contact number of many people and we are computerising this data.
We will contact them via SMS to give them the information about the happenings in the gallery. However, there are some people who have just written their landline numbers and so we will have to skip them. Also, we are making sure that the SMS goes to just one member of a family."
Rajderkar further stated that 2,000 people out of the 5,000 have been registered at present. "We have now requested the people to write their mobile number to avail of this service, which is free of cost. The Kala Bhavan is providing this service with the help of Thane Janata Sahakari Bank. Since we have a sponsor, the civic body has not spent anything from their pocket for this."
Thane Kala Bhavan management is now working on an email service for the Internet savvy patrons. "With the help of an email service, we can easily contact some people who registered their email ids in our register. It is also easy to send some snapshots of exhibition along with the invitation cards and other details via email. Also, this is a cheaper media and it will hardly require any time to connect thousands of people at a time. So we are now working on the email service and we hope to start it soon," informed Rajderkar.
