THANE:
The online admission site was ready for its
trial run on Sunday morning. By 2pm the next
day, over 6,600 students had logged on to the
site and practised using the various online
applications.
Many
have sent in very detailed and perceptive comments
about the system, in the hope that the state
will sit up and take notice. Some of the messages
were congratulatory, others critical. "The
site's inner links are not working properly,"
said one of the students. Another said it was
very complicated and slow.
One
student informed the government that in addition
to putting out the full names of colleges, their
popular names should also be mentioned, to make
it easier for a student to identify a college.
The fact that it will help cut down on travel
time has been hailed by parents and students.
"There
are only a handful of good colleges in Vashi.
If not for online admissions, I would have to
travel large distances to apply to colleges
in other areas," said Aakash Singhal, a
student of Fr Agnel Multipurpose School, Vashi.
Nidhi Parekh from Arunodaya School, Thane, also
feels that online admissions will help save
time and money.
The
state has also promised to look into the criticism.
"While many students gave the system a
thumbs up, we were especially happy with the
critical inputs from them. We will use their
feedback," said Aatul Wadegaonkar, GM,
Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited, which
has developed the website.
