THANE:Although the TMC had sanctioned raincoats for their students, they couldn't get the deal through. Now, all the 40,000 students will go to school without the civic-funded raincoats. The chairman of the education committee cited technical difficulties in the tender which resulted in the delay in getting the contract finalised.
The education department received Rs 9.34 crore as part of the civic budget, but has asked for an additional Rs 1.5 crore to meet their needs, which was given to them. However, the department is once again under scanner.
A month ago, the education department had announced that it would provide raincoats to all 127 civic schools. Out of the 127 schools, 98 are Marathi medium, with 30,000 students studying.
When questioned about the delay, Suresh Gada the chairman of the education board informed that although the body had promised its students that they would get raincoats, there was a delay. "We announced that we would submit tenders to the contractors, but now we're facing some technical difficulties," he informed.
