Finally, civic education board gets its own in-charge official

THANE: The year-long wait is over. The education department of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) was functioning without an education officer for almost a year. Recently, the department got its new education officer appointed by the government and hopes to resolve pending issues that were accumulating so far.

In all general body meetings held so far this year, the house and standing committee members were making corruption charges against the education board. But the chairman of the department managed to evade them by citing the absence of the education officer, claimed a committee member. But, with the appointment of the education officer on July 4, things are likely to change.

The state government has appointed Suresh Pawar to take charge of the department. Armed with 27 years of experience in the field of education, Pawar now wants to implement new ideas in the department. He also wants to sort out pending issues.

"I started working on the education department in 1983. I have worked in Mumbai and Pune before taking charge in Thane." Pawar had worked as project officer for adult education, directorate officer for budget and planning department, deputy secretary for state board education and also as joint secretary for the Pune Board for SSC and HSC. "This is second time for me where I got a chance to work for Thane. Before this, I also worked for Thane Zilla Parishad as education officer and hence I am quite familiar with the system. Now I want to do something better for this education board," claimed Pawar.

He has also promised to improve the quality of education and "try hard to sort out pending issues as soon as possible".
