THANE: The Thane Municipal Corporation's health department has given precautionary doses to residents who had recently come in contact with swine flu patients from Mumbai and Pune.
The civic health department has met the residents of Pawar Nagar and Vasant Vihar, who are related to victims of swine flu and provided them with the necessary treatment so that they aren't affected. They had also advised potential patients to visit hospitals in Mumbai to get treated.
"We have recommended to residents who are related to swine flu victims from Mumbai and Pune to take precautionary doses so that they aren't affected with the disease. We have also asked them to visit Mumbai hospitals to know if they are swine flu victims," informed Dr RT Kendre, the medical health officer of the TMC.
Dr Kendre informed that the TMC received a case of a girl, who is the sister of a swine flu victim on July 18. "The victim is a resident of Pune and the girl, a resident of Thane visits Pune over the weekends to visit her family. We have inoculated the girl to ensure that the disease doesn't spread in Thane," he added.
Swine flu has hit more than 160 countries all over the world. Currently, Mumbai and Pune have 41 reported cases of swine flu. As Thane is close to both cities, the TMC has issued an alert and have begun treating relatives of the victims of the disease.
