THANE: The Kapurbavdi police arrested two youths for allegedly trying selling weapons in the city. Police Sub Inspectors Anil Bhawari and Maruti Patil, under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Prakash Gawane, laid a trap and arrested the accused. After getting a tip-off about the duo roaming suspiciously near Kapurbavdi junction, the police arrested them and recovered some country-made revolvers and live cartridges.
Police identified the accused persons as Dudhanath Chaudhary (27) and Jaiprakash Chowdhary (22). During the interrogation, they admitted have come to Mumbai from Uttar Pradesh to sell weapons at a higher price and gain profit after buying them at cheaper rates. The police suspect the accused may have been selling the weapons to some criminals in the city.
Whether the accused came to Mumbai to sell the weapons or if they are members of organised gangs is yet to be established. Gawane informed that the accused were educated - one is pursuing BHMS degree and another is in second year of BA. They are booked under the provisions of the Arms Act. "PSI Patil has been directed carry out detailed investigations of the case and submit report to him as early as possible," Gawane informed.
