THANE: With the TMC instructing schools to remain closed for a week because of the swine flu outbreak, there will be no students celebrating Independence Day. Interestingly, the teaching and administration staff that will still be going to work, will be part of the celebrations.
"Although we've closed the schools for students, our teachers are still working. They have been instructed to take any child showing symptoms of the H1N1 virus to the civic hospitals in the city. Furthermore, since there are no students, our teachers will be participating in the August 15 celebrations," informed Suresh Gada of the civic education board.
Gada further informed that although the TMC has instructed students not to come to school, parents and students have requested that they be part of the August 15 celebrations. "We can't say no to them and hope that the celebrations are memorable," he said.
The TMC currently has 132 schools in its jurisdiction with 40,000 students and 1,200 teachers. In wake of the spread of H1N1 the TMC instructed the students not to come to school until August 19.
