10 shows at Gadkari cancelled, as auditorium remains shut till Aug 16

THANE: The city is already scared of swine flu spreading all over. People are resisting to step out of their homes, schools have been shut and now even malls and multiplexes have been forced to shut down.

The issue of shopping malls and multiplexes shutting down has already created lots of confusion in the Mumbai and Thane, but the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has now firmly declared their role towards the city's Cultural Hub. The TMC has declared to shut down its cultural entertainment unit, Gadkari Rangayatan till August 16. As Gadkari will remain closed for this period the city will loose 10 shows which were planned to be performed at Gadkari Rangayatan.

As the number of suspected patients is increasing day by day in the civic hospitals, the civic authorities are making every attempt to avoid swine flu. The civic body has already declared shut down for its all primary and secondary schools and now even theatres like Gadkari Rangayatan will remain closed for a few days.

As there are number of celebrations are in line, there is long weekend for the current week. Knowing the fact, civic body announced to close Gadkari Rangayatan for a few days. There were 10 shows planned for the coming three days. For these 10 shows the TMC would get thousands of booking from citizens which force TMC to take firm decision.

"As we know from past that the booking for holidays gets increased rapidly and to avoid the epidemic of swine flu by means of our cultural hub we have come to conclusion of shutting it down. As there are 10 shows planned for this period we have sold thousands of tickets for the show. But now we are going to pay the ticket amount back to our citizens, as we have declared a shut down. We have kept all our ticket windows open so that people can avail the refund without any inconvenience," informed Mahesh Rajderkar, in charge, Gadkari Rangayatan.

Rajderkar further informed that, "As the organisation plans their show almost three months before, we regret the cancelling of their shows. But, they know our seriousness behind this decision and now they have also agreed and respected our decision. The decision also helps for them as it directly relates with their safety. We have also promised them to return their advances."

Thane Kala Bhavan still open
Though, the Thane Municipal corporation (TMC) has declared their decision for Gadkari Rangayatan, they have not yet finalised anything about shutting down their new project of Thane Kala Bhavan. The crowd at the Thane Kala Bhavan also increases on holidays, especially this weekend as a few unique exhibitions are scheduled. Thaneites as well as the civic body will benefit if the Kala Bhavan is closed for now, as more people will visit the exhibitions if they are held after a few days, when the scare of swine flu is reduced.
