THANE: The one thing common in the spate of robberies in the entire Pawar Nagar area has been that all them have been carried out by bikers. Two youngsters on a bike riding swiftly and robbing people on the internal roads of the various housing complexes here (Vasant Vihar, Hiranandani Meadows, Lok Puram, Tulsidham, Hyde Park, etc) has been the common thread linking all the thefts that have taken place recently.
The modus operandi is quite simple. The robbers move in on unassuming people who are walking on the roads or travelling in autos and quickly snatch the belongings and zoom off into the dark lanes of the area. Pedestrians and people travelling in autos are targeted as they cannot give a chase. Every time, the robbery takes place at such high speeds that taking down the registration number of the bike is almost impossible and the bikers strike only in dark areas and internal roads making it almost impossible to catch or even identify them. There are even cases where these bikers have struck early morning targeting morning walkers.
While the police shows no interest or inclination in reigning in the culprits, it is important for the residents of these areas to make sure they find ways to be safe and not be - hit by these biker thieves.
