Gayatri is the mantra with specific rhythm. It is a "song of presence" any happenings of your life always your mind to tune with your inner and outer energies. The basic step is to listen to happen. Second step is to recite mantra on thought level and be attentive to know it. The third essential step is to just sit and recite the positive energies, which you only have invited and tune, by reciting gayatri mantra. Over and above it is true that residence is not advisable to stay above stilt, as you loose the benefit from element earth. Suggestion is keep maximum water at north & east & west to sustain in the adverse situation.

Sonia u r right in a way vastu & Feng Shui has common end but different means Vastu is more subtle as it deals with 10 direction & five elements of this nature it will work with many devices like Mantra Therapy, Energy Healing & Creating Environment to be in 'present' movement. Sonia Vastu is science of receptivity as 'Bhakti Yoga or prayer with science & Feng Shui doesn't not bother to use any means and tap the 'chi' or energy or end. Vastu is more experienced science as it uses ' proper means for proper end'.

It is true shaki that open book shelf trouble inmates, may be any intimate one, as it doesn't allow your energy to focus thus creates trouble in relationship while you think about inmates.

Dear there should be at least 6 feet distance between element fire and water as well keep them on different levels, water should be above (drinking water). If u modify you kitchen you should obstruct visibility of water and fire from each other by just putting small partition. If u are unable to do so this wrong arrangement affects ones relationship. Between the family person & they do start quarrelling with each other, as well as they don't sit together for dinner.
